Encouraging the sharing and appreciation of our heritage and raising awareness of its history and diversity are the objectives of this initiative, which makes a piece of its collection public on a monthly basis.

The exhibition potential of the Camões Secondary School heritage is enormous, allowing for multiple approaches. Studies can be carried out from a building or a space, an object or a set of objects (books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, paintings, sculptures, pieces associated with a celebration or a testimony, specimens of natural history, instruments scientific studies associated with a discipline, among others to consider). Thus, based on experience and direct contact with tangible and intangible goods, the OBJECT # activity is geared towards carrying out a cultural action, both in the context of formal and informal education, involving the community in its different processes of appropriation and valuing the school's HERITAGE.

The MUESC highlights the publication “Le volcanisme de L'Ile de Faial et l'eruption du volcan de Capelinhos”, with entry registration (n.º 8135) in the Liceu Camões library on April 10, 1961, by offer of the Services geology of Portugal. It is profusely illustrated, includes numerous photographs, diagrams, maps and includes a geological map of the island.

The eruption of the Capelinhos volcano, which began on September 27, 1957 and ended on October 25, 1958, due to the diversity of explosive and effusive phenomena and its long duration, attracted many scientists, journalists and curious people, Portuguese and foreigners, to the region. . Even today, this area of the island of Faial continues to be studied, namely by NASA, due to the diversity of geological elements that allow us to understand how the landscape of Mars has evolved over the last million years.

This memoir, about the Capelinhos volcano, is also one of the themes ofHeritage goes to class, collection of approaches proposed by MUESC for exploration in the classroom.
